Hi I was wondering if someone would explain something to
me. Do I need both Real player(latest version10) and
latest Windows Media Player? I have WINME 128mgs, on a
slow dial up and spent an hour and a quarter supposedly
downloading new media player.....when I clicked on it I
got this message "WINDOWS MEDIA PLAYER NOT INSTALLED
PROPERLY. RESTART PUTER AND LOG ON WITH USER ACCT THAT
PERMITS YOU TO INSTALL PROGRAMS"
Please can someone tell me what all this "mumbo-jumbo"
means...obviously I am connected and everything. Do I need
the both of them.No...I do not download music from net, on
this puter it would take a month of Sundays to do that. I
use IE 5.5, OE 5 and Netscape 7.1.....and am not exactly
experienced with puters. Please, would someone explain this
to me. Thank-you!!

Susanne,

Remember the VHS versus Beta days?

Similar things are happening here. There are three competing streamng media
players: QuickTime, RealPlayer, and Windows Media Player. To be able to play
whatever may come along you need all three.

The message you got, if it was in Windows XP, could mean you are not the
administrator, but ME does not have one so I can't guess what it means. But,
why did you get a message about Windows Media Player if you had downloaded
and were trying to install RealPlayer? Something isn't computing here?

Sorry.....I downloaded Real Player first...no problem
there at all. I am thinking about changing ISP so am going
over all and seeing what should be fixed up and addys etc
to replace when I do. I noticed when I clicked on Windows
Media Player that I got that message. That is why I am
wondering if I need it or not or can I delete it since I
do not download music.I just wanted to make sure all was
updated before I make the move to new ISP. Is this an
clearer? I am fairly new to this puter game so please bear
with me. Thanks....have to run for work but will check
back.

You don't 'need' any of the media players unless you are going to be viewing
streaming media from the web; not just music but videos as well.

You can try reinstalling Windows Media Player on top of itself to get rid of
the message.

Or just remove them all.
